About Us

Cold Water Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1958 to serve the fire suppression needs of the rural Cold Water community. Community leaders embarked on a grass roots effort to secure land, funding and materials to construct the new station. Through generous donations, hours of volunteer work and home-made fire trucks, Cold Water VFD was born. The department was initially located at the intersection of Gold Hill and Highway 73. In 1989, the department relocated to its present location, 1830 Gold Hill Road. In the early days, Cold Water boasted roughly 28 members and responded exclusively to calls for fire suppression. Average annual call volume rarely exceeded 40 calls. Fifty years later, the department boasts an impressive fleet of top of the line fire apparatus including two engines, a heavy rescue, a tanker, a brush truck. The department’s 35 members respond to an array of fire suppression, hazardous materials incidents, rescue and emergency medical calls. The department strives to maintain a professional volunteer department that changes with the needs of our community. As the area has grown, the department has grown to meets the ever changing demands of its citizens. In 2007, the department began to pay per call and to staff the station during business hours. Cold Water Volunteer Fire and Rescue now responds to nearly 400 calls for service annually.
